Vintage Thingies Thursday

Colorado Lady's blog has links to the other participants in this weeks Vintage thingies thursday. There are some fun vintage things to admire.

I don't have a purse collection but once in awhile I find one that makes me smile. These are a few of my favorites. The small gold coin purse has a tag inside saying it was made in West Germany. The lining is perfect and there are rhinestones on the ends of the clasps. The white purse has metal handles and is covered with beads and rhinestones. It was made in Hong Kong. And the blue one is an eye glass case, with an optometrist's name and address inside. Thanks for looking, see you next week.

Match Safe

I found this little treasure in the back of a cabinet at my Mom's house. It needs to be cleaned up a bit but looks pretty good. You can see on the side an opening where the box shows through so you can strike the matches.

1970's Owls

Suzanne, the hostess for Vintage Thingies Thursday, posted some 1970's items which reminded me of my owls. A friend gave me these three cute framed owl prints. Like the ceramics she mentioned, owls were quite popular collectibles back then!

Vintage Cats

This week I am showing two set of salt and pepper shakers. I like them not because they are salt and pepper shakers but because they are cats!
And the have such different "personalities.

Anniversary Tea Cup

I went to an auction Wednesday for the first time in months. Auctions are so much fun; digging for treasures, the thrill of winning the bid, getting bargains! This anniversary tea cup was one of my wins. I also got some glassware, linens and some interesting things in a junk lot (they called it five boxes of "knick knacks").

This week I am showing a collection of Christmas pins.

And I have a question for all of you. I found these beautiful salt and pepper shakers. However, there is some type of corrosion (almost looks like salt) around one of the lids. It is bad enough that the lid does not come off. Any suggestions on how to get rid of the corrosion without ruining the lid? Thanks in advance.

Vintage Thingies

Just a few fun figurines for this week's Vintage Thingies Thursday. The pelican is the biggest and is about 3 1/2" tall. The caterpillar is the smallest at 1 1/2" tall.

A few salt and pepper shakers I have sitting in my kitchen right now. I think I will keep the singles and sell the four full sets.

Vintage Thingies

I bought this cute red scales at an auction. It's either a reproduction or it's been repainted because the paint looks too perfect. But I still like it!

Vintage Thingies

This past saturday, I went with a friend to the quilt show. There were so many vendors and displays that it took us six hours to walk through. At one booth I found these vintage feed sacks. I had never seen any before and only hesitated a little at paying $6.95 each for the two with some flaws and $10.95 for the one with no flaws. Then I found them at two more booths but the prices ranged from $40 to $50 EACH! I was shocked. I like them but wouldn't pay that much, would you? Each measures about 36"x45".

Vintage Thingies

Here are a few kitchen items I had the privilege to inherit from my husband's grandmother. I have never seen another cracker dish like this one. To see more "Vintage Thingies" check out Colorado Lady's blog.

Vintage Thingies

Treasure from Mom's Dresser. Last week my Mom decided we should sort the things in her dresser. It was like a treasure hunt. There was a small stack of hankies; including one that was mine. I had totally forgetten about my hankie with the yellow flowers until I saw it. I didn't know she had an Eastern Star ring or that she had been in the VFW Auxillary.

I remember watching her get dressed to go out and thinking that she looked so fancy with her sparkly jewelry. In her dresser was the fabulous pair of Rhinestone clip on earrings. And the red tin was something she used to hold sewing pins when I was younger. It originally held "Madame Butterfly Brand Pure Silk Ribbon" for an IBM tabulating.

Vintage Thingies Thursday

My first time participating in Colorado Lady's Vintage thingies Thursday. I found this quilt a couple of weeks ago stashed in a bag in my Mom's closet. It was made by my grandmother and I remember using it when I was young. It now resides on the back of my living room couch!
